Louisville’s neighborhoods wear their construction dates in their pipes. The city’s water is drawn from the Ohio River and treated by the Louisville Water Company. Quality is well regarded, but the water runs moderately hard, and dissolved minerals do two quiet things inside homes: build the sediment layer that makes water heaters rumble and die young, and scale up fixture aerators and toilet rim jets over the years.
